Mukherjee, India's top political official, has died at the age of 84. The former President of India, who was diagnosed with coronavirus, had fainted after undergoing brain surgery earlier this month.
"With a heavy heart, this is to inform you that my father Shri Pranab Mukherjee has just passed away without the good efforts of RR Hospital Doctors and prayers, duas, and Prarthana from people all over India! Thank you all," son Abhijit Mukherjee wrote on Twitter.
The institute has declared seven days of state mourning for the former President.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was one of the first to pay tribute, saying he had been blessed with Pranab Mukherjee's leadership since taking office.
"India is saddened by the passing of Bharat Ratna Pranab Mukherjee. He has left an indelible mark on the development of our nation. "I was new to Delhi in 2014. From day one, I was blessed to receive the guidance, support, and blessings of Shri Pranab Mukherjee. I will always appreciate my contact with him. Words of condolence to his family, friends, fans and supporters throughout India. Om Shanti," he wrote.
This morning, a military hospital in Delhi reported a decline in the status of the former President. She panicked and dried up as a result of a lung infection, said the Army's Research and Referral Hospital.
Mr Mukherjee was admitted to hospital on August 10 and underwent surgery the same day with a brain tumor. She had been tested for COVID-19 at the hospital. "When I visited the hospital in a different procedure, I found out I had COVID-19 today. I am asking people who contacted me last week, to ask to be isolated and tested for COVID-19," he had sent.
He suffered from lung disease and kidney failure a few days ago, according to doctors.
In the past few weeks, there has been a spate of demands for immediate political assistance from all veterans' groups, the former Minister of Finance, Defense and most foreign governments until he took the highest position in the country.
Mr Mukherjee was President of India from 2012 to 2017.
The daughter of former President and Congress leader Sharmistha Mukherjee, in a tweet, recalled this time last year when she received the Bharat Ratna, the highest public respect.
